Innovative, Philadelphia-based Hip-Hop MC Darko The Super is back at it again with his newest effort, Great White Buffalo.

Fans of Golden Age and East Coast Hip-Hop will be at home here as Darko’s quirky yet buttery smooth flow melts over the rapper’s fifteen new tracks with effortless finesse, and a certain maturity Darko is steadily garnering as he ingrains himself within the Hip-Hop game.

The album opens with “Great White Buffalo,” a sax sample-laden track reminiscent of A Tribe Called Quest colliding head-on with the styles of Open Mike Eagle’s Unapologetic Art Rap.

Darko’s eclectic musical background is on full display here with samples of legendary singer-songwriter Dean Friedman’s 1981 classic, Rumpled Romeo, used liberally. Cuts like “Buy My Baby A Car” and “Nookie In The Mail” are skillfully reworked by Darko in his decidedly varied fashion as “Buy My Baby A Used Fiero On Craigslist” and “Nookie Through The Phone.”

Also featured on this lowkey Hip-Hop mega album is a verse from the reclusive Exile, a guest appearance on the infinitely talented and truly singular Fatboi Sharif, as well as a memorable sax solo from the Saxsquatch.

In short, Great White Buffalo is a record that has put Darko The Super on the proverbial indie Hip-Hop map. Fans of Tobacco, People Under The Stairs, George Clinton, DJ Screw, Soulsonic Force, and Machine Wash Music ought to take notice. Slick production, masterful lyrical imagery, combined with deep-cut, crate-digger sampling make this album an absolute must listen.

Darko The Super has managed to take everything we love about 1980s Electro-Hop, 90s Golden Age Hip-Hop, and 2000s Vaporwave, and merge it all into one ultramodern, futuristic, forward-thinking tour de force.

Great White Buffalo is a record we are going to be talking about for years to come. With these tracks laid to tape and now unleashed unto the world, its legacy is soon to be formally cemented.
